Catching Up

For the next couple of weeks I’ll be house-sitting in the country for my aunt and uncle who are on vacation, and hopefully getting caught up on my writing. I had to put my in-progress manuscript on hold so I could do some editing and revising on another project. As I’ve mentioned in previous posts, I love the country. Zoe, however, isn’t very fond of it. After a couple of days she’s ready to go to town. So I’m giving her a break tonight and letting her sleep in her own room instead of the kennel. You think she might be spoiled?

On the submissions front, I haven’t heard back from any publishers. But I did get a full manuscript request from an agent. I’m hoping to land one for my latest novel in the hopes of getting my feet into the doors of a larger publishing house. Like all writers I dream of being on the NY Times Best Seller List one day. Through the years many have scoffed at that dream but I don’t care. Writers like Stephen King and Nora Roberts inspire me with similar stories of their own scoffers. And to quote Walt Disney ‘All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them.’

In my latest search for places to submit to I was astonished by how many publishers who are turning to erotica to boost their sales—the steamer the better in most cases. I may sound a little old fashion but come on people—that’s not romance. There are still writers out there though who believe you can have a great romance (and suspense) without x rated love scenes. I recently joined a group of them on Yahoo called The Sweetest Romance. They’re a great bunch—very friendly. And one of my favorite Christian Suspense authors, Dee Henderson, really does a wonderful job of mixing in fabulous sweet romance in her stories. If you haven’t read the O’Malley Series—or her other series that I can’t think of the name of right now—you’re really missing out.

Until next time, stay safe and be blessed my friends.

I have noticed the increase in the graphic level of 'romance' over the years as well. So much so I had to ask a fellow writer the difference between erotica and the average romance novel, which, in my opinion, SHOULD be labled erotica.
I like romance in my stories, I admit it. I like it in suspense, fantasy, sci-fi, thriller, paranormal ... but I too believe you can have romance without 'steamy' scenes and obsessive foul language. Apparently we are the minority.
ps: I would very much like a signed copy of your book - do I still need to send you an email ?
